Fall And Winter Research Has Turned Up Some Interesting Finds

The BCSO has been and continues to be doing extensive research in and around the lower lying areas of Strathcona park ,Courtenay and Campbell River , looking for any signs of Sasquatch activity .
We started heavy investigations in these areas back in September of 2010 and have continued right up to as recently as February 26th/2011 . We are very interested in the relationship between the Sasquatch and elk herds . In doing our research we have read reports and theories that the Sasquatch follow the elk as a potential food source . Secondly we have also researched the possible theory that the Sasquatch moves further down the mountains during the winter months to possibly get out of the heavy snow cover . Finally the BCSO also believes that the Sasquatch may be more active in lower lying areas during the late fall and winter months because human traffic is at its most minimal due to the more extreme weather conditions ( heavy rains , flooding , snow , cooler temperatures, etc ) .
Looking at the reports which we have received coupled with the reports we have found online , the BCSO has discovered that Sasquatch related incidents start to climb between May and Sept and taper off between Oct and April .We believe this is due to weather conditions .As the snow melts and the rains decrease every year , people start to venture into the forests of the pacific northwest to hike, camp and fish . As the human traffic increases it encroaches on the Sasquatches territory , therefor increasing encounters between humans and the Sasquatch . During the cooler wet months the human traffic drastically decreases coupled with the snow forcing the Sasquatch down into lower lying areas. The Sasquatch would also have more confidence that it would not have a human encounter.
If these theories are true then we drastically improve our odds in the late fall and winter months of having a Sasquatch encounter in lower lying areas.
To date ( between Oct/10 and Feb/11) we have found 4-possible tracks in 3-different locations , numerous twisted and snapped branches , some oddly over layed trees  , numerous elk and deer skat , elk rubbings , cougars tracks , bear tracks , elk tracks , deer tracks , raccoon tracks , beaver tracks , rabbit tracks and wolf tracks . We have found some prime habitat areas in which a  Sasquatch could live and move around in with a minimal chance of ever having a human encounter even during the summer months .
The BCSO has even taken a witness into our search area who claims he may have stumbled upon a  possible Sasquatch nest.
We have made many trips into these same search areas during heavy snow falls increasing our chances of finding tracks in the snow.
All in all the investigations in these areas have turned up some interesting finds but still no concrete evidence that the Sasquatch remains in these areas during the colder wet months .

Witness Claims Finding Possible Nest

I recently received a report of a possible Sasquatch nest North of the Comox valley . The report was given to me by Gavin Joth of the BCSCC ( British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club ) . This report was given directly to the BCSCC by the witness who encountered the possible nest . The report stated that the witness was out picking mushrooms in the fall of 2004 . After a few hours of picking the witness looked up in a maple tree to see a huge nest about 14' to 20' off the ground . The witness went on to say that the nest sat under a canopy of evergreens and he thought the nest too big for any kind of eagles nest .
I contacted the witness about 3-days after receiving the report .We made plans to meet the following Saturday Jan 29th/2011 at 10 am .
After Josh , Cory and I picked up the witness we made our way northwest down one of the main logging roads coming to a gate which was lock and allowed no access , this was where the witness said he went back in 2004 . We then decided to move further north looking for any access roads which may link up with the road that was gated . After a few dead ends and some more locked gates we decided to pull over and hike into the area by foot .
After some hours of hard hiking through slashes, snow, forested areas and creeks we came to the north end of a large stand , our elevation was 234 m . The elevation we were trying to get to was at about 604 m .It was at this point we decided to turn around before darkness set in.
This investigation turned up a lot of Elk signs including skat and tree rubbings .We did find some prime habitat areas for the Sasquatch but did not find the nest or any other signs in this area .
The BCSO is planning a follow up investigation in this area during the spring of 2011.
I would like to thank Gavin Joth and the BCSCC for the lead and I look forward to joint cooperation between our organizations in the future .

Possible Bigfoot Sighting ?

Sasquatch and Science

Why not ? That's the question I ask when it comes to the existence of the Sasquatch .In general I believe that the majority of people base and form there opinions (beliefs) on what others say, via family members , friends , strangers and especially the media ( newspapers ,books, radio and television ) . Knowledge is key to anything we do in life , without knowledge we cannot properly form an educated opinion (conclusion) to whatever it is we are trying to understand. When one talks to an expert in any field , you know that he/she has educated themselves in there field of expertise . There are however many people who distort , bend and twist reality and if they come across as somewhat believable( or have charisma) you to may be caught up in whatever it is they are saying ,  after all your perception is your reality . When you form your opinion with regard to the Sasquatch I recommend you do your research . Base your opinion on credible evidence for and against the existence of this creature, don't base it on the hundreds of idiots who buy monkey suits and make 1 or 2 minute videos which they post on YouTube or the high profile hoaxes such as the idiots who claimed they had Bigfoot frozen in a freezer which when thawed out was a gorilla suit . It's pretty easy to go a long with the majority when it comes to something which has still to be proven .The sceptic can always say " wheres a body " ? That's the hard evidence which still eludes us. What about all the other evidence we do have (thousands of sightings , DNA samples which don't belong to any known animal , tracks , pictures, videos, audio and so on ) ? I know that when main stream science and skeptics alike look at eye witness accounts, that they are looked at through a magnified glass , there integrity and credibility is also viewed . Its funny if you look at it like this , example : A career criminal with a record longer then your arm has a genuine sighting and reports it only to have people say " no way , he's not credible" but a doctor who has a genuine sighting must be telling the truth cause he's a "doctor" . That being said , most scientists ( main stream ) would throw most sighting reports(if not all) out the door simply because they really have no way to know who's telling the truth and who's lying? What they should be taking in to consideration is the volume of sightings (as a whole) , that alone points to something rather odd . 2nd , the DNA that exists but doesn't have a "known" animal attached to it ? 3rd , the picture evidence , not just the pictures of the creatures but of the tracks , tree twists , rustic shelters , damage and numerous other oddities ? 4th, the hundreds of plaster casts in which some have dermal ridges also included in the castings is the famous "skookum cast"? 5th , the sheer amount of video evidence including the Patterson/Gimlin film , Tofino footage , Freeman footage , Mackenzie footage and so on ? 6th , the audio footage which does not belong to any known animal ? 7th , The over powering odor which is associated with Sasquatch sightings ? 8th , The rock throwing reports , what animal in our forests can hurl rocks at un-suspecting campers, prospectors , hikers and forestry workers ?
Lets put a little twist on a thought I have . Lets just say for argument sake , The scientists ( and sceptics a like) throw out all witness reports , video and pictures, remember there is no physical evidence in any of that . Now lets take a look at what science is doing with Aliens . How much time , money and effort has science spent looking for Alien life on other planets ? They have witnesses who have seen Aliens and there space crafts , they have pictures and video as well . But I thought that having all the above mentioned was not enough evidence to support a scientific investigation? Do they have an Alien specimen that we don't know about ? If you ask the military or the scientists they would say no. If that's the case , factoring in the plaster casts , skookum cast , unknown DNA samples , audio recordings and other oddities , I believe we have more evidence here on earth for the existence of Sasquatch then we do for Alien life ?
Final thoughts: I believe in order to understand the Sasquatch you must first understand its environment . To science I will say , in order to understand space and its surroundings you must first understand your environment here on earth . Why try to understand something you still no nothing about (Alien life)when you still have so much to learn here on earth ?
If you were to tell the African Americans in the 1950's that equality would be theirs with in the next 40 or 50 years and that there would be a African American president they would have looked at you and laughed .
Why is science so put off by the Sasquatch? I love the open minded  youth of today. Tomorrow when the narrow minded scientists of old are retired and the new open minded young scientists take their place in the world, I'm sure they will put forth the effort required to put this age old mystery to rest !
